New Year’s Eve

From all of us here at Bark Radio, a very Happy New Year. We’re taking a short break and will be back on the air in January.

As Terry and Dee looked back on 2009, they realized they had met some extraordinary people and dogs this year. They picked a few out of the many to catch up with – for a series of three holiday specials. The journey down memory lane starts with a subject: canine cancer. How does a guy from Texas raise awareness of the disease that took one of his dogs, Malcom? If the guy is Luke Robinson, he sells his truck, stores his worldly possessions and sets out on a 2,000 mile walk from Austin to Boston … with his two Great Pyrenees, Murphy and Hudson. Bark Radio’s first interview with Luke and The Boys was in May of 2009. Since then there have been additional conversations, as well as face-to-furry-face meetings in Virginia and DC. And so, from Terry and Dee and their dogs: happy holidays to Luke, The Boys, Ginger, Erich, all the volunteers involved in Luke’s ground team, supporters of the walk, and everyone touched by cancer. Woofs & wags!

Keep your dogs safe this winter with Dee and Terry’s cold weather tips. If your dog spends a lot of time outside, bring him in more during cold winter months. Is your dog getting up there in years?  Just like people, older dogs’ joints hurt more in cold weather, so make Fido comfortable with a cushy dog bed. The discussion continues with the top ten poisons that can harm or even kill your dog. Listen up. Beware. Keep your pets safe! For more information on toxic substances, use keyword “poison” on Bark Radio’s site. For a complete list of toxic plants, go to the ASPCA’s site. The ASPCA’s poison control center is at 888.426.4435.
