A year ago we met Mike and Goldie from Mikes Dog House, I thought it would be fun to revisit that interview ~ Terry – Mike’s Dog House began when an abandoned dog was rescued while Mike was running a hot dog stand. From that point forward Mike turned Mike’s Dog House into a bully breed rescue and has not looked back. Mike has personally handled every rescue that has came through the dog house and interviewed every potential adopter to ensure adoption compatibility. Since beginning over five years ago, Mike’s Dog House has successfully adopted out hundreds of dogs.

Eric Bellows absolutely rocks! Don’t miss our conversation with Eric about Joe Thunder, the amazing Rottweiler who lost his owner and K9 sister in a home invasion and nearly lost his own life after being shot four times. This is an amazing story of the true nature of a dog. If you are interested in adopting Joe Thunder (yup, he’s ready for a forever home) or another of Eric’s dogs, apply online at Pack Ethic Rescue or Rescue Ink. And check out video of Eric’s Pack Ethic Rescue, the amazing sanctuary he and wife, Keri, run in upstate New York. Thanks, Eric!!

Maggie Martin rocks. With BlogPaws West taking place in Denver – and Denver having notoriously BAD breed specific legislation – Maggie launched a postcard campaign. Exceeding her expectations, Maggie received better than 1500 postcards from all over the world. Get the details of that campaign in this interview with Emmett’s mom (that’s him below). Keep up with Maggie on her OhMyDog blog.
Meet concert pianist Lisa Spector, the woman who plays the incredible music that is … Through a Dog’s Ear. Improving the lives of dogs through music? Yes indeed. Does your dog have anxiety issues? Music therapy can help dogs with phobias like fear of thunderstorms and fireworks, as well as one of the most common problems dogs can face: separation anxiety. Is it riding in the car that makes your dog anxious? There’s a special CD in Lisa’s series just for that. This beautiful classical music benefits shelter dogs and new litters of puppies, as well. Visit Lisa’s website. And consider music therapy for your household. It worked in mine, settling dogs and humans alike – in minutes!

A few weeks ago a bunch of us attended a great dog event near Richmond, VA. While at Dogs Day, we talked with some folks including Lisa from Rescue of Chained K9s (ROCK). Learn how this terrific organization is making a difference, one dog at a time. Next we talked with Dean Frazeur, pastor of Goochland Church and our host for the day. This is a great guy whose mission on Dogs Day was sharing the love between people and their dogs. Mission accomplished, Dean! And finally, a shout out to the great folks at Meals on Wheels for their Meals for Pets program.
This is the first episode ever of Bark Radio that does not deal with dogs. So why Wild Mustangs? Because at this very moment there are more Wild Mustangs in government holding pens than in the wild. Because the Bureau of Land Management is “managing” the herds to extinction. The story of these beautiful horses and their family units – now being ripped apart – is way too reminiscent of the history of Native Americans. Don’t miss this informative interview with Maureen from Grassroots Horse.
Search and rescue dog handler Susannah Charleson has written a real page turner – Scent of the Missing: Love and Partnership with a Search and Rescue Dog. Susannah talked with us recently about her Dallas-based SAR team and her partner, six-year-old Golden Retriever, Puzzle. Susannah’s insight about dogs in general and SAR dogs in particular makes this a great read. Here she is … describing puppy Puzzle after an early “find” in training: “She flops down in the green grass, snitzes once and tosses her head, with a grin so wide it eclipses the rest of her face. She looks like a little blond Halloween pumpkin laughing there, full of merry confidence and more than a little mischief.”
