Too often there seems to be a disconnect among individuals within the rescue world. Misinformation abounds. Hear Terry’s personal experience relating to a Kim, a service dog in need of a new home. That’s Kim in the photo below. More about her journey in a future episode of Bark Radio.

A year ago we met Mike and Goldie from Mikes Dog House, I thought it would be fun to revisit that interview ~ Terry – Mike’s Dog House began when an abandoned dog was rescued while Mike was running a hot dog stand. From that point forward Mike turned Mike’s Dog House into a bully breed rescue and has not looked back. Mike has personally handled every rescue that has came through the dog house and interviewed every potential adopter to ensure adoption compatibility. Since beginning over five years ago, Mike’s Dog House has successfully adopted out hundreds of dogs.

Eric Bellows absolutely rocks! Don’t miss our conversation with Eric about Joe Thunder, the amazing Rottweiler who lost his owner and K9 sister in a home invasion and nearly lost his own life after being shot four times. This is an amazing story of the true nature of a dog. If you are interested in adopting Joe Thunder (yup, he’s ready for a forever home) or another of Eric’s dogs, apply online at Pack Ethic Rescue or Rescue Ink. And check out video of Eric’s Pack Ethic Rescue, the amazing sanctuary he and wife, Keri, run in upstate New York. Thanks, Eric!!

Sheriff Joe Arpaio is TOO COOL! Hear all about his innovative use of a prison. It’s a win-win for animals, prisoners, and the budget. From hero to villain, the next story falls under the heading “what the heck is wrong with people?” as a girl is videotaped throwing puppies into a river. Then there is the disturbing trend of some foster pets being abandoned. And, finally, who is Stu (or is it Stew?)

Why are so many people considering their dogs disposable? Get a dog, dump a dog? Millions of dogs are surrendered to rescues annually with up to 4 million being euthanized EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Why does this epidemic exist? Part of it is the economy. Is there help for folks who are struggling financially? In many communities, yes. Check with your local shelter to see if a program exists that can help with vaccinations and even food. Behavior problems? Enlist a trainer. Considering bringing a dog into your home? Think carefully about the long-term commitment required.
