Warm weather has already brought with it a lot of weather-related devastation in the U.S. Bark Radio is here to remind you to be prepared for an emergency evacuation of your home. Your evacuation plan should include how to get your pets out of your home quickly, with everything they need in case you cannot return to your home in a timely fashi0n. In today’s interview, Sherry Woodard tells us about fabulous program at Best Friends Animal Society. Best Friends’ Search and Service program started in May 2009. Sherry hand-picks dogs with the potential to be working dogs. So far, seven search and rescue dogs have been placed, one service dog has been placed and another will go home soon. Having created the successful protocol, Sherry now shares the process with rescues everywhere. Great job, Best Friends!

Military working dogs with titanium fangs? High-tech tactical dog vests that include night-vision cameras? If you haven’t heard the story, tune in to today’s episode of Bark Radio. The headline reads “Iran tries to make it illegal to own a dog”. All dogs? Yes indeed. Learn all about it in today’s episode. Next, we’re off to Berlin for a seriously strange story about law enforcement, guns, bad shooting, and a dog. And finally, some good news in the U.S. It was a win for Pit Bulls in Illinois recently. The Aurora City Council voted to allow disabled residents to use Pits as service animals. The council also reduced the number of banned dog breeds from 10 to 3. Slow progress. But progress nonetheless.

FLASHBACK – Mikes Dog House

FLASHBACKS continue in week two of Bark Radio’s spring break –Mike’s Dog House began when an abandoned dog was rescued while Mike was running a hot dog stand. From that point forward Mike turned Mike’s Dog House into a bully breed rescue and has not looked back. Mike has personally handled every rescue that has came through the dog house and interviewed every potential adopter to ensure adoption compatibility. Since beginning over five years ago, Mike’s Dog House has successfully adopted out hundreds of dogs.

It’s a bit quieter now. Twins Dan and Noah have gone off to college. But it a very good life with a truly remarkable dog.
