Mike Harmon talks today with Terry and Dee about Best Friends’ innovative Community Training Partners Program. The goal of the program is to reduce euthanasia and increase adoption of dogs nationwide. An additional part of the program deals with helping people keep their dogs in their homes – including providing low-cost in-home training. Reducing owner surrender is huge! So, dog trainers – get in touch with Mike so you can work within your community to keep those dogs in their homes, all through Best Friends.

In today’s interview, Sherry Woodard tells us about fabulous program at Best Friends Animal Society. Best Friends’ Search and Service program started in May 2009. Sherry hand-picks dogs with the potential to be working dogs. So far, seven search and rescue dogs have been placed, one service dog has been placed and another will go home soon. Having created the successful protocol, Sherry now shares the process with rescues everywhere. Great job, Best Friends!

This great organization provides vet-care assistance to low-income creatives. This is a nationwide program and as noted on the ACA website, “Many artists are not able to afford health insurance for themselves never mind pet insurance and often have to choose caring for themselves or their animals.”
